Here we sure have moose, along with black bear, plenty of 'em, and recently we saw a big brown bear below...wintertime we saw a wolf below....it's nice living on the side of a mountain...last night a black bear was convinced he could drag away our bear proof garbage can but it was bigger than him! We watched him walk around and sit down, walk around again....and I was so excited thinking as he walked in front of my wildlife camcamera I "caught" him on film.....but no, my settings were too high and I got lovely photos of the mountains and glaciers and Kachemak Bay, but no bear! I'll get it right yet!

Young moose

This is about the youngest moose I've "captured" on film...it was in our driveway in Fritz Creek when we rented a small cabin. I can see a few from my wiindow, not as great a view as this I took from East End Road, but I can see a view of icebergs as they float by on the Grewingk Glacier Lake....it's a glacer just across the bay from us, and a few years ago I landed in a float plane into the lake, the guide blew up kayaks (he used to have plastic kayaks there but the bears chewed them up like toys) that he know keeps locked up in a wooden box, and my daugther and her partner and I kayaked around the icebergs in front of the glacier....did you know icebergs are 90% under the water? We had then to hike a mile up and down a steep mountain to reach the other side where a water taxi was waiting to take us back to The Homer Spit....let me find a close up of one of the icebergs...I'll be back!<div style='clear:both; At first it was sitting down, and all I could see was the head and two black ears which looked like a black cat curled up.......till it got up and moved! No black cat for sure....black bear yes, it hung around below awhile eating grass and while we were looking around for it we swear it had to have been another further down below crossing the Mike's lane! Last night around 11:45PM Bill was calling for me as I had just fallen asleep yelling bear! bear!....We watched below a brown bear...that is, a blonde brown bear almost yellow all around except reddish brown underneath...huge...(I never lie)....it was sitting eating grass, waddled over towards the neighbor Mike's road below, and crossed it....we had our binoculars and like two little kids watched in wonder....around here the brown bears are really big....interior Alaska there are what's called grizzly bears, another brown bear version but not as big....it was just not enough light to capture this siting, but our hearts were pounding for sure! In that same spot early in the morning same day, I had watched a moose....and we've seen a wolf in that area this winter, a black bear a few days ago, seems to be lots of traffic there....awesome, folks, just awesome....in time I'll be sharing beautiful photos of Alaska in it's finest natural world of wonder.
